A bridge between Africa and Europe -
Modestine Ekete merges the genres
Figure of the Cameroonian community in Luxembourg, Modestine Ekete presents her first album, Zing Ndada. A title in Yemba language that means step by step.
This is a first opus that invites to travel. Originally from Cameroon and settled in Luxembourg since 2005, Modestine Ekete mixes her musical influences and mixes the instruments of her native Africa with contemporary sounds. A heteroclite album, like this multidisciplinary artist who defends the cultural diversity of Africa, from his childhood in Bamileke country of western Cameroon when she arrived in the Grand Duchy.
Singer, actress, choreographer, Modestine juggles with the arts as others manipulate clubs. More than a world music album, Zing Ndada is a work that is at once social, artistic and spiritual. On stage, Modestine deals with the themes that are close to her heart. It is at the same time a matter of protecting the environment, women's rights, child protection, the integration of young people or, more simply, love.
To justify his approach, Modestine insists on the duty of transmission of artists. An artistic, social and spiritual action that it wishes to spread to all audiences. Trained and nourished by the performing arts, she does not hesitate to intervene with young people to share her experience. "Our mission is to transmit values, our experiences, knowledge, cultures," she explains.
Zing Ndada is an album on the wire, a disc constantly evolving between African traditions and contemporary sounds. Author, composer and producer, Modestine recorded the titles of her record at Studio BAMHAUS and Studio Wolmerange. She cultivates a Afrobeat style with colorful sounds thanks to collaborations with artists from different cultures. Zing Ndada reveals itself in all its complexity. A resolutely free opus, fed by the differences of its musicians.
